Last Updated:
This Privacy Policy describes how the Offline Expense Tracker mobile application ("App", "we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects your information.
Important: This app is designed to work offline and stores all your personal financial data locally on your device. We do not have access to your transaction data, categories, or any personal financial information.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Data You Provide
The App collects and stores the following information locally on your device:
- Transaction Data: Amount, transaction type (income/expense), category, date, and optional notes
- Category Data: Custom category names, icons, and colors you create
- App Settings: Currency preference, theme preference (light/dark/system)
- Security Data: If you enable app lock, a hashed version of your PIN is stored locally (never in plain text). Biometric authentication settings are stored locally.
1.2 Automatically Collected Information
The App uses the following third-party services that may collect certain information:
- Firebase Analytics: Google Firebase Analytics collects anonymous usage statistics such as app opens, screen views, and feature usage to help us improve the app. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.
- Firebase Crashlytics: Google Firebase Crashlytics collects crash reports and error logs to help us identify and fix bugs. This may include device information (model, OS version) and crash logs, but does not include your personal transaction data.
For more information about how Google uses data when you use our app, please visit: https://policies.google.com/privacy
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 Local Data
All transaction data, categories, and settings are stored exclusively on your device using local storage (Room database). This data is used solely to provide the app's functionality:
- Display your financial summaries and reports
- Generate monthly reports and category breakdowns
- Enable backup and restore functionality
- Export data to CSV format
- Display widgets on your home screen
2.2 Analytics and Crash Reporting
We use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to:
- Understand how users interact with the app
- Identify and fix bugs and crashes
- Improve app performance and user experience
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Local Storage
All your personal financial data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. The data is stored in an encrypted database on your device.
3.2 Security Features
The App offers optional security features:
- PIN Lock: If enabled, your PIN is hashed using PBKDF2 with HMAC-SHA256 before storage. We never store your PIN in plain text.
- Biometric Authentication: If enabled, biometric authentication is handled by your device's secure hardware. We do not store biometric data.
3.3 Android Backup
If you have Android backup enabled on your device, your app data may be included in your device's backup. This backup is managed by Google and stored in your Google account, subject to Google's privacy policy.
4. Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, or transmit your personal transaction data, categories, or financial information to any third parties. The only data that leaves your device is:
- Anonymous analytics data sent to Firebase Analytics (as described above)
- Crash reports sent to Firebase Crashlytics (as described above)
5. Data Export and Backup
The App allows you to:
- Export Data: Export your transactions as CSV files or backup as JSON files. These exports are created locally and can be shared by you using Android's share functionality.
- Restore Data: Import previously exported backup files. This process is handled entirely on your device.
6. Permissions
The App does not require any dangerous permissions. The App may use the following standard permissions:
- Biometric Authentication: Only if you choose to enable biometric lock. This is handled by Android's BiometricPrompt API.
- File Access: To save and restore backup files, and to export CSV files.
7. Children's Privacy
Our App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
8. Your Rights
Since all your data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it:
- You can view, edit, or delete any transaction or category at any time
- You can export your data at any time
- You can uninstall the app, which will remove all locally stored data
- You can disable analytics by adjusting your device's settings, though this may limit our ability to improve the app
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
